Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | John Jay Sports Information

Men's Soccer Falls to SUNYIT

The men's soccer team found the back of the net to tie the game with six minutes remaining in the second half but was ruled offside and eventually fell to SUNYIT, 3-2, on Saturday evening at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-2 on the season. The Wildcats improve to 1-0-1.

SUNYIT got on the scoreboard first at the 15 minute mark, courtesy of a penalty kick. Three minutes later, senior Pablo Rojas dribbled the ball down the right side and crossed it into the box when Graysen Carlson tapped it in to tie the game at one apiece. The rest of the half was quiet and at halftime, the game remained tied at 1-1.

The Wildcats outshot John Jay 9-8 in the half. Sophomore Daniel Hoyte made six saves.

Fifteen minutes into the second half, SUNYIT took the lead and three minutes later, increased their lead to 3-1. John Jay intensified the pressure and with 13 minutes left to play, Carlson was awarded a penalty shot. The senior blasted a shot into the corner of the net to record his second goal of the game and sixth of the season.

John Jay's best opportunity to tie the game came on a free-kick with six minutes left to play. After getting the ball inside the box, the Bloodhounds tipped the ball into the net but the play was called back as the referee ruled the player was offside.

The Bloodhounds travel to SUNY New Paltz on Monday, September 7, for a non-conference match at 4 pm.
