The men's basketball team fell to Moravian College, 82-69, on Sunday afternoon in Bethlehem, PA. The Bloodhounds fall to 2-15 on the season. The Greyhounds improve to 7-8 overall.
Junior
Kiernan Hayes led John Jay with 15 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the floor, a team-high seven rebounds, two assists, and a team-high two blocks. Freshman
Essien Epps recorded a team-high 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Calvin Ingram registered 14 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Junior
Jesse Higgins added nine points and dished out a team-high three assists. Juniors
Geno Ware and
Ronald Merriwether combined for 11 rebounds and freshman
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez had eight points.
The Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 6-3 lead but Moravian tied it with 16:18 left in the first half. John Jay scored the next five points and eventually had a seven-point lead with 13:12 on the clock. Five minutes later, the Bloodhounds increased its lead to 28-16.
John Jay's largest lead of the half came with 5:25 left in the half when they were up, 35-22. The Greyhounds closed the gap and ended the half on a 15-7 run to trail, 41-37.
The Bloodhounds scored the first two baskets of the second half. Four minutes later, Moravian cut the deficit to 49-48. The hosts took their first lead of the second half, 52-51, with 12:14 on the clock. Five minutes later, Moravian had a 14-point advantage.
John Jay chipped away at the lead and trailed 67-63 with just under five minutes remaining. The Greyhounds went on a 9-1 run to seal the victory by a final score of 82-69.
John Jay finished 26-for-56 (46.4%) from the field, 6-for-13 (46.2%) from behind the arc, and 11-for-15 (73.3$) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to Lehman College on Wednesday, January 20, for a conference game at 5:00 pm.
