The lady Bloodhounds basketball team suffered a 107-53 loss to conference opponent Lehman College in the APEX Arena in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-7 in conference play and 4-11 overall. The Lightining improve to 11-6 overall and 6-2 in CUNYAC.
Freshman center
Karen Rosario led the Bloodhounds with a double-double. She was 9-for-20 from the field with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore
Victoria Royal finished 7-for-9 from the field and recorded 17 points, a game-high 16 rebounds, and three assists. Junior
Cassandra Taylor recorded 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Lehman started the game with a 15-4 lead before Taylor scored a mid-range jump shot to give the John Jay confidence moving forward. The Bloodhounds trailed by 12 before Royal made a hook shot to end the first quarter. Lehman went on a 13-0 run to start the second.
Shaliyah Ruiz scored the Bloodhounds' first points with a layup. The half time score was 55-21 in favor of the Lightning.
To start the second half, Lehman opened on an 11-0 run. Taylor ended that streak with two back-to-back layups in the paint. The hosts led 82-35 heading to the final period. The Bloodhounds first points of the fourth came from a pair of free throws with eight minutes left in regulation. The Bloodhounds scored a quarter-high 18 points in the fourth.
John Jay finished 23-for-60 (38%) from the field, 1-for-14 (7.1%) from behind the arc, and 6-for-12 (50%) from the free throw line.
The Bloodhounds will look to bounce back as they host Brooklyn College on Friday, January 22, at 6:00pm at the Doghouse.
