The women's basketball team lost to Hunter College, 57-45, on Friday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 4-15 overall and 2-10 in the conference. The Hawks improve to 7-13 on the season and 4-8 in CUNYAC.
Senior
Terri Chu led the Bloodhounds in scoring with 10 points. Sophomore
Victoria Royal recorded eight points, 12 rebounds, and a team-high three steals. Junior
Shaliyah Ruiz picked up eight points, a game-high 13 rebounds, a game-high four assists, and two steals. Freshman
Karen Rosario added nine points and six rebounds.
Hunter began the game scoring the first four points but John Jay went on a 7-0 run, only to see the Hawks tie the game at seven apiece. At the end of one, the score was tied 11-11. With the Bloodhounds trailing by two with 8:10 left in the half, Ruiz tied it on a jumper and two free-throws gave the Bloodhounds a two-point lead. At the end of the half, the game was tied 24-24.
Four minutes into the third quarter and John Jay down by one, the visitors went on a 7-0 run to lead, 37-29. John Jay cut the deficit to six with one minute left but the Hawks went into the fourth with a 44-34 advantage. In the last period, the Hawks increased its lead to 12 with 4:38 left in the game. Hunter would go on for the victory by a final score of 57-45.
John Jay went 19-for-56 (33.9%) from the field, 3-for-11 (27.3%) from behind the arc, and 4-for-12 (33.3%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds continue their homestand on Saturday, January 30, when they host SUNY Old Westbury at 2:00 pm.
