The women's basketball team lost to Maine Maritime Academy, 61-49, on Sunday afternoon at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds drop to 3-8 on the year. The Mariners improve to 5-4 overall.

The first five minutes of the first quarter consisted of four lead changes as the score was tied 6-6. With the Bloodhounds trailing 10-8, the Mariners went on a 4-0 run to lead 14-8. Two made free-throws by junior
Cassandra Taylor cut the deficit to four heading into the second quarter.
Three minutes in, Chu and Ruiz hit back-to-back jumpers to tie the game at 14 apiece. Royal made a jumper to end the half and put John Jay ahead 21-19.
The guests began the third quarter on a 6-0 run to grab a four-point advantage. With 5:48 left in the quarter, Diaz nailed a jumper to cut the deficit to 27-26. Maine Maritime followed by scoring the next eight points to lead by nine. The Mariners increased its lead to 45-33 heading into the final quarter.
Four minutes into the quarter, the visitors led 53-38. With 2:18 remaining in the game, the Bloodhounds cut the deficit to nine points. Maine Maritime would go on to win by a final score of 61-49.
John Jay finished 18-for-52 (34.6%) from the field, 5-for-15 (33.3%) from behind the arc, and 8-for-13 (61.5%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to Baruch College on Tuesday, January 5, for a conference game at 5:30 pm.
