The women's basketball team lost to Hunter College, 79-55, on Homecoming on Tuesday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-7 on the year and 0-3 in CUNYAC.
Senior
Cassandra Taylor led John Jay with a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor, four rebounds, and two assists. Senior
Shaliyah Ruiz finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Karen Rosario picked up eight points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Claire Prince recorded a team-high nine rebounds, a team-high three assists, and a team-high three steals. Freshmen
Kaitlin Koehler and
Uju Nwaigwe combined for 10 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.
The first quarter went back-and-forth as there were five lead changes in the first seven-and-a-half minutes. Up by one, Taylor hit a jumper to increase the lead to three but Hunter ended the quarter by nailing back-to-back three pointers to lead 13-10 after the one. The visitors took a five-point advantage early on in the second but the Bloodhounds quickly cut the deficit to two. The Hawks followed on an 8-0 run to lead 23-13. John Jay ended the quarter scoring the final five points to head into halftime trailing 26-24.
Taylor opened the third with a jumper to tie the game. Hunter responded on a 19-4 run to go up 45-30. At the end of the third, John Jay trailed 61-38. The Bloodhounds recorded a quarter-high 17 points in the final period but fell by a final score of 79-55.
John Jay finished 19-for-52 (36.5%) from the field, 2-for-8 (25.0%) from behind the arc, and 15-for-33 (45.5%) from the free throw line.
