The men's basketball team lost to Brooklyn College, 84-56, on Friday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds fall to 0-8 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Bulldogs improve to 3-5 and 1-2 in CUNYAC.
Sophomore
Essien Epps recorded his first double-double of the season with a team-high 19 points, a team-high 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Geno Ware picked up 10 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Freshman
Wyatt Harkins added eight points and dished out a team-high three assists. Freshman
Tyrone Dennis came off the bench and registered five rebounds and two steals.
The Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on a three-pointer by Epps and a layup by junior
MiKing Richardson. Brooklyn scored eight straight points but John Jay tied the score 8-8 with 15:00 left in the first half. With the score tied at 10 apiece, Brooklyn went on an 8-0 run but the Bloodhounds responded with six straight points to cut the deficit to 18-16. With John Jay down by two, the Bulldogs went on a 9-1 run and went into halftime leading 36-25.
Epps opened the second half with a layup but the guests followed with nine straight points to hold a 45-27 advantage. The Bloodhounds cut the lead down to 14 but could not get any closer and fell by a final score of 84-56.
John Jay finished 21-for-61 (34.4%) from the field, 5-for-16 (31.3%) from behind the arc, and 9-for-17 (52.9%) from the free throw line.
