Juan DeJesus Records Triple-Double as Men's Volleyball Defeats CSI in Four

The men's volleyball team defeated the College of Staten Island (CSI), 3-1 (22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21), on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 12-6 overall and 9-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Dolphins drop to 4-15 on the season and 2-9 in CUNYAC. 

Juan DeJesus had a career day for John Jay as the sophomore recorded a triple-double with a game-high 23 assists, a team-high 17 digs,12 kills, a game-high five service aces, and two blocks. Senior Jack Palleschi fell one dig shy of a triple-double with a game-high 23 kills, 12 assists, nine digs, a game-high three blocks, and three aces. Junior Francisco Miranda registered six kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Alexander Santana added five kills and four digs. Sophomores Brandon Dolores and Ivan Yeung combined for 13 digs. 

John Jay got off to an early 7-1 lead and increased its advantage to 13-6. CSI went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 15-14. The Bloodhounds went back up by four, only to see the Dolphins end the set on a 11-3 run to take the first set, 25-22. In the second, John Jay started on a 4-0 run. With the Bloodhounds leading 9-8, John Jay increased its lead to 19-11. The Bloodhounds ended the set taking the final five points to win, 25-15. 

In the third stanza, John Jay earned nine of the first 11 points. The visitors cut the lead to 13-7. John Jay ended on a 6-2 run to take the set, 26-16. In the final period, both teams exchanged points as CSI led 5-4. The Dolphins then went on a 8-4 run to increase their lead to 13-8. Trailing 18-11, the Bloodhounds went on a 10-1 run to go up, 21-19. John Jay ended the set on a 4-1 run to take the match.

John Jay finished with 48 kills, 38 assists, 12 service aces, five blocks, and 59 digs. 

The Bloodhounds travel to York College on Thursday, March 16, for a conference match at 7:00 pm.
