The baseball team fell to Maritime College, 12-5, on Wednesday night at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 1-11 overall. The Privateers improve to 6-2 on the season.
The hosts opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with five runs. In the top of the fourth, sophomore
Zach Hyde led off with a single and scored on an RBI double by junior
Dylan Laudano. With two outs, junior
R.J. Davila drove in Laudano with an RBI single. Junior
Jason Gonzalez then brought home Davila with an RBI single of his own.
Maritime added to its lead after scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning. In John Jay's next frame, Hyde hit a line drive over the right center field fence for his first of the season. After four-and-a-half innings, the Bloodhounds trailed 7-4.
The Privateers scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth to go up 12-4. In the top of the eighth, senior
Nick Gioia led off with a single and was driven in by an RBI single by sophomore
Brian Garcia.

Matthew Oppedisano started for John Jay and threw 3.1 innings. Junior
Charles Mendes and freshman
Christian Pacheco each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
The Bloodhounds will travel to Harrisonburg, VA for a doubleheader against Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, March 19, at 12:00 pm.
