The softball team lost its first two games of the season, 9-1 and 8-0, to SUNY Purchase on Tuesday afternoon in Purchase, NY. Purchase improve to 6-2 overall.
In game one, the Bloodhounds got on the scoreboard in the top of the first. Junior
Jennifer Pace led off with a walk and advanced to second on a bunt single by junior
Alinda Nicaj. With two outs and the bases loaded, Nicaj crossed home plate on a passed ball. The Panthers took the lead in the second inning after plating five runs. The hosts tacked on four more runs in the fourth to take game one, 9-1.
Sophomore
Lisa Pellegrino got the start and threw a complete game.
Inelza Salcedo picked up her first collegiate hit as a Bloodhound.
In game two, the Panthers scored three runs in each of the first two innings. They added two runs in the final inning to win, 8-0. Pace and Pellegrino recorded hits for John Jay. Nicaj pitched a complete game.
The Bloodhounds host Brooklyn College in their home opener on Thursday, March 24, at 3:30 pm at Randall's Island Field 16.
