The softball team picked up its first two wins of the season against Brooklyn College, 15-3 and 16-6, on Thursday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-2 on the year and 2-0 in the conference. The Bulldogs drop to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in CUNYAC.
In game one, junior
Lisbet Lorenzo and sophmores
Lisa Pellegrino and
Michelle Atiq recorded two hits and three RBI's each. Freshman
Star Manzueta finished 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Junior
Alinda Nicaj was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and one RBI. Junior
Jennifer Pace scored a game-high three runs.
On the mound, Pellegrino picked up her first win of the 2016 campaign. The New Hyde Park native threw five innings, allowing seven hits, three runs, no walks, and struck out three.
Brooklyn scored in the top of the first inning but John Jay responded right away by plating 12 runs in the bottom half. The Bloodhounds added to its lead after scoring three in the second. Lehman's last two runs came in the top of the third.
In game two, Pellegrino led John Jay offensively going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two triples, a game-high six RBI's, and two runs. Juniors
Jennifer Pace and
Alinda Nicaj combined for two hits, six runs, four walks, three RBI's, and three stolen bases. Atiq finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored. Manzueta and freshman
Karen Rosario combined going 5-for-8 with two runs and two RBI's.
On the hill, Nicaj recorded her first win after pitching five innings. Once again, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the Bloodhounds took a 3-1 lead after one full. Brooklyn tied it up at 3-3 in the top of the second. John Jay bounced back to score four in the second to go up 7-3. The Bulldogs chipped at the lead and trailed 8-5 after three full innings. The Bloodhounds broke open the game in the fourth after scoring eight runs.
The Bloodhounds travel to Lehman College on Tuesday, March 29, for a conference doubleheader starting at 4:00 pm.
