The baseball team defeated Maritime College, 8-5, on Thursday night in Throggs Neck, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-12 on the year. The Privateers drop to 10-3 overall.
Junior
Charlee Rodriguez got the nod and picked up the win for John Jay after throwing seven innings, allowing four runs (none earned), four walks, and struck out eight. Junior Charles Mendez received the save, pitching the final two innings.
Sophomore
Zach Hyde led the Bloodhounds offensively going 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base. Senior
Joe Jacobsen went 3-for-4 and sophomore
Brian Garcia was 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Freshman
Brandon Thomas drove in two runs and senior
Esteban Soler swiped three bases.
John Jay jumped out to a four run lead in the first and added a run in the second. In the bottom of the seventh, the Privateers plated four runs to trail by one. Both teams scored a run in the eighth inning and the Bloodhounds added two insurance runs in the ninth to go on to win by a final score of 8-5.
The Bloodhounds travel to Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, March 26, for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
