Baseball Sweeps Yeshiva University, Quirindongo Throws Three-Hitter in Game 2

The baseball team swept Yeshiva University, 8-3 and 12-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Palisades Park Baseball Field. The Bloodhounds improve to 5-13 overall. The Maccabees drop to 0-12 on the year. 

In game one, senior Matthew Oppedisano got the nod and threw a complete game, allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned), two walks, and struck out five. Offensively, Dylan Laudano led John Jay going 2-for-4 with two RBI's and one run scored. The junior also threw out two potential base stealers. Senior Esteban Soler went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore Brian Garcia knocked in two runs and Zach Hyde recorded one RBI, one run, and two stolen bases. 

With the Bloodhounds trailing 2-1 after four full innings, John Jay broke open the game in the top of the fifth when they scored seven runs to go up 8-2. The Maccabees plated one in the bottom half of the sixth, but the Bloodhounds held on for an 8-3 win. 

In game two, Matthew Quirindongo threw a gem. The senior threw a complete game, allowing three hits, two runs (none earned), one walk, and struck out eight. Freshman Jonathan Warasila led John Jay going 3-for-5 with two RBI's and one run scored. Soler, senior Nick Gioia, and freshman Jurrel Diaz had two hits each. Garcia and freshman Brandon Thomas added two runs each. 

The Bloodhounds face Mount Saint Mary College (NY) on Tuesday, March 29, for a non-conference single game at 4:00 pm. The game will be played at Dutchess Stadium in Wappingers Fall, NY.
