The men's volleyball team defeated Lehman College, 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21), on Wednesday evening in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds improve to 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the conference. The Lightning drop to 3-12 and 2-6 in CUNYAC.
Senior
Jack Palleschi recorded a team-high 11 kills, a game-high five blocks, and five digs. Senior
Nicholas Anderson dished out 28 assists to go along with three digs. Junior
Francisco Miranda registered nine kills and four digs. Sophomore
Juan DeJesus picked up eight kills, a team-high six digs, and three aces.
John Jay stormed out to an early 5-1 lead but the Lightning tied it at six apiece. With the score 10-10, the Bloodhounds went on a 5-1 run to lead 15-11. John Jay closed the set on a 7-2 run to win, 25-17. The second set went back-and-forth as the score was tied at six apiece. The hosts then went on a 9-5 to go up 15-11. John Jay fought back to take a 19-17 lead. Lehman closed the set on an 8-1 run to even the score at 1-1.
In the third, Lehman went up 4-1 but the Bloodhounds fought back to take a 12-10 lead. John Jay increased its lead to 19-14. The Lightning made a late comeback but fell, 25-23. In the final set with the score tied 3-3, the Bloodhounds went on a 5-1 run. Lehman eventually tied it 10-10 but John Jay recorded five straight points to take a five-point advantage. Later in the set, John Jay increased its lead to eight and would go on to win, 25-21.
John Jay totaled 33 kills, 31 assists, 27 digs, six blocks, and four service aces.
The Bloodhounds return to the Doghouse for a non-conference match against Pratt on Thursday, March 3, at 7:00 pm.
