The baseball team split with Lehman College on Sunday afternoon at MCU Park in Coney Island. The Bloodhounds came back to win game one, 6-5, before losing game two, 6-0. The Bloodhounds are now 8-17 on the season and 2-2 in CUNYAC. The Lightning are 7-17 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
In game one, sophomore
Joe Gregory got the start and threw six innings, allowing four hits, three runs (one earned), three walks, and struck out two. Lehman scored one run in the second, third, and fourth innings to lead 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Sophomore
Brian Garcia led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on an RBI double down the left field line by junior
Dylan Laudano. With two outs, sophomore
Robert Moncino came through with an RBI single to right field to cut the deficit to one. Junior
Jason Gonzalez followed with a game-tying RBI double to deep left field to make it 3-3.
The next two full innings were scoreless until the top of the seventh when the Lightning scored two runs on three hits and one error. Heading into the final inning, sophomore
Zach Hyde led off with a triple to left center field. With one out, Laudano drove in Hyde with an RBI ground out to cut the lead to 5-4. Junior
Charlee Rodriguez then reached on an error by the first baseman. Junior
Brian Cabral pinch hit and drew a walk to make it first and second with two outs. Junior
R.J. Davila came through with a clutch RBI single to right field to tie the game at five a piece. With first and third and sophomore
Christian Rodriguez pinch running for Cabral at third, Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch to give the Bloodhounds a 6-5 win.
Gonzalez finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Hyde went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Laudano picked up two RBI's. Mendes recorded his second win of the season after throwing the seventh inning.
In game two, the Lightning opened the scoring in the top of the first with two runs. The visitors added two in the third, one in the fifth, and one in the seventh, to win by a final score of 6-0.
John Jay recorded six hits in the contest. Senior
Matthew Quirindongo threw five innings and
Christian Rodriguez finished the final two.
The Bloodhounds face NYU on Tuesday, April 12, at 4:00 pm at MCU Park.
