The softball team swept York College, 11-2 and 8-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Purchase, NY on the campus of Manhattanville College. With the wins, the Bloodhounds improve to 7-14 on the year and get back to .500 with a conference record of 6-6.
In game one, York scored a run in the top of the first. In the bottom of the second, freshman
Karen Rosario knocked a two-run triple to center field to give John Jay a 2-1 lead. In the Bloodhounds' next frame, Pellegrino recorded an RBI double, Lorenzo picked up a two-run triple, and freshman
Star Manzueta singled in Lorenzo to put John Jay up 6-1.
The Bloodhounds broke open the game in the bottom of the fourth after scoring five runs. Pellegrino drove in two runs with a double and junior Michelle Atig recorded an RBI sacrifice fly. The Cardinals scored one in the top of the fifth but fell by a final score of 11-2.
Pellegrino finished 2-for-2 with two doubles, three RBI's, and three runs scored. Manzueta went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Lorenzo and Rosario had a triple and two RBI's each. In the circle, Pellegrino threw a complete game, allowing four hits, two runs (one earned), and struck out five.
In game two, the Bloodhounds opened the scoring with five runs in the first. Junior Alinda Nicja, Pellegrino, and Manzueta had RBI's in the inning. In the second, Pellegrino doubled in two runs to increase John Jay's lead to 7-0. The Bloodhounds added one in the third inning to win by a score of 8-0.
Pellegrino was 2-for-3 with three RBI's and one run. Freshman
Inelza Salcedo added a hit and run scored. Junior
Jennifer Pace swiped three bases. Nicaj got the start and pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and struck out three.
The Bloodhounds travel to Western Connecticut State on Friday, April 22, for a non-conference doubleheader at 2:30 pm.
