Softball Loses Two Games Against New England College

The softball team fell to New England College, 10-0 and 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 4-5 overall. The Pilgrims improve to 9-11 on the year.

In game one, New England opened the scoring in the top of the second with one run. The visitors scored six in the fifth inning and three in the sixth. Junior Jennifer Pace led the offense going 2-for-3 and junior Lisbet Lorenzo picked up a double. Sophomore Lisa Pellegrino threw six innings.

In game two, the first three full innings were scoreless. In the bottom of the fourth, Pellegrino led off with a single and advanced to second on a base hit by Lorenzo. With one out, senior Amber Villegas singled to load up the bases. Freshman Karen Rosario came through with a two-run single to put the Bloodhounds ahead 2-0.

The Pilgrims responded in the next frame to tie the score 2-2. In the top of the sixth, the guests took a 3-2 lead and would go on to complete the doubleheader sweep. Pellegrino, Villegas, and junior Michelle Atiq registered two hits each. Junior Alinda Nicaj got the start on the mound and threw a complete game, allowing eight hits, three runs, and struck out one.

The Bloodhounds host York College on Tuesday, April 5, for a conference doubleheader at 4:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 33.
