The baseball team dropped a non-conference game to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, 9-4, on Thursday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds fall to 9-22 on the season. The Bears improve to 15-15 overall.
St. Joseph's took a 2-0 lead after three-and-a-half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, sophomore
Brian Garcia led off with an infield single and advanced to third on a single to right field by junior
Dylan Laudano. With one out, junior
Charlee Rodriguez blasted a two-run triple to center field to tie the game at two apiece. Rodriguez later scored on a balk to give the Bloodhounds a 3-2 advantage.
In the top of the sixth, the Bears regained the lead after plating three runs. In the bottom half of the inning, junior
Brian Cabral doubled with two out and scored on an RBI single by
Charlee Rodriguez to cut the deficit to 5-4.
In their next frame, St. Josephs scored a run and added three insurance runs in the top of the ninth to win by a final score of 9-4.
Senior
Matthew Oppedisano got the start and threw 5.2 innings, allowing five runs (one earned), five hits, and struck out three. Freshman
Jurrel Diaz and junior
Charles Mendes pitched in relief.
Garcia and Laudano finished 2-for-3 with a run scored each. Rodriguez recorded two hits, three RBI's, and a run.
The Bloodhounds travel to Western Connecticut State on Friday, April 22, for a non-conference game at 5:00 pm.
