The baseball team lost to Delaware Valley, 18-5, on Wednesday afternoon in Doylestown, PA. The Bloodhounds fall to 7-16 overall. The Aggies improve to 10-6 on the year.
Dylan Laudano led John Jay at the plate. The junior went 3-for-5 with a homer, one double, four RBI's, and two runs scored. Sophomores
Zach Hyde and
Brian Garcia recorded two hits and one run scored each. Senior
Noel Sanchez registered a hit and RBI. Senior
Esteban Soler picked up a hit and stolen base.
Delaware Valley took an early 7-0 lead after the first inning. In the top of the fourth, Laudano led off with a double to center field. With the bases loaded and one out, Sanchez singled to the shortstop to put the Bloodhounds on the board. In John Jay's next frame, Hyde and Garcia singled with one out. Laudano then crushed a three-run homer to left field, his second of the season, to cut the Bloodhounds' deficit to 7-4.
However, the Aggies responded in the bottom half of the inning with five runs. The hosts tacked on six more in the seventh.
Freshman
Jurrel Diaz, coming off his first Rookie of the Week honors, threw 2.1 shutout innings in relief. Freshmen
Marco Alonso and
Christian Pacheco, senior
David Schildwachter, and junior
Charles Mendes all pitched scoreless innings.
The Bloodhounds host Lehman College on Saturday, April 9, for a conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm at MCU Park.
