The women's basketball team lost to Hunter College, 63-53, on Friday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex. The Bloodhounds drop to 1-17 overall and 1-9 in the conference. The Hawks improve to 9-9 and 5-5 in CUNYAC.
Senior
Cassandra Taylor registered a game-high 21 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Junior
Dana Nicholson recorded 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore
Karen Rosario collected 10 points and eight boards. Senior
Claire Prince picked up six points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Freshman
Uju Nwaigwe added a game-high 11 boards off the bench.
The Bloodhounds opened the game with a layup by Rosario and a three by Taylor. With John Jay up 7-2, Hunter scored seven straight points to take their first lead of the contest. Taylor responded with a three pointer but the Hawks ended the quarter on a 4-0 run to lead 13-10 after the first. The hosts scored the first four points of the second period to increase its lead to seven. Nicholson then drained a three but Hunter registered seven straight points to go up 24-13. The Hawks went into halftime with a 35-18 advantage.
Two minutes into the third, Hunter increased the lead to 44-20. With 5:49 left in the period, Rosario made a layup and Taylor hit a three to cut the deficit to 15. Hunter led 55-33 heading into the final quarter. The Bloodhounds opened with an 11-0 run to cut the lead to 55-44 with 3:20 left on the clock. John Jay got as close as 10 points but the comeback came to an end as time ran out.
John Jay went 19-for-56 (33.9%) from the field, 7-for-22 (31.8%) from behind the arc, 8-for-18 (44.4%) from the free throw line.
