Castillo's Late Goal Pushes Women's Soccer to 2-2 Draw vs. CCNY

The women's soccer team tied CCNY, 2-2, on Saturday morning at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds are now 6-7-1 and remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0-1. The Beavers are 5-3-2 and 1-2-1 in CUNYAC.

City College scored two goals in the first seven minutes of play. John Jay outshot the Beavers by a margin of 7-5 in the first half. Senior Kelli Doherty made two saves.

In the 65th minute, freshman Kimberly Robledo blasted a free-kick from outside the box to put the Bloodhounds on the scoreboard. Robledo now has 12 goals on the year. John Jay intensified the pressure and with just under two minutes remaining in the contest, the Bloodhounds were awarded a corner kick. Sophomore Mary Jo Anzano put it in the box and found senior Alexis Castillo who tapped it in to send the game into overtime.

In OT, neither team found the back of the net as the hosts outshot John Jay 6-2. Doherty finished with eight saves. Junior May Dempsey finished with a team-high four shots and three shots on goal.

The Bloodhounds host Lehman College on Wednesday, October 18, in a conference match at 4:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 10.
