The men's soccer team edged out New Jersey City University, 2-1, on Monday afternoon in Jersey City, NJ. The Bloodhounds improve to 8-6 on the season. The Gothic Knights drop to 4-9-2 overall.
In the 12th minute, freshman
James Haddad scored his fifth goal of the season to give John Jay an early 1-0 lead. Fourteen minutes later, senior
Curtis Harbers stole the ball in the box and buried it into the back of the net. It was Harbers' third goal in the last two games.
At half, senior
Alexandros Taliotis recorded six saves.
NJCU dominated much of the second half as the hosts outshot the Bloodhounds by a margin of 20-3. In the 66th minute, the Gothic Knights cut the deficit to one goal. Taliotis made key saves and John Jay's defense was able to keep New Jersey City University off the scoreboard for the remaining 24 minutes to hold on for a 2-1 victory.
Harbers and freshman
Samboudiang Faye each finished with three shots and two shots on goal. Taliotis finished with five saves.
The Bloodhounds close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 18, when they travel to the College of Staten Island for a conference match at 3:00 pm. John Jay has already securd the #2 seed in the CUNYAC playoffs. The Bloodhounds will have a first-round bye and host the winner of the #4 vs. #5 game on Saturday, October 28, at 2:00 pm at the College of Staten Island.
