For the second straight year, the men's basketball team competed in an exhibition game against a DI program. The Bloodhounds traveled to Army West Point and lost by a final score of 92-43. Last season, the team played at Division I LIU Brooklyn before the start of the regular season.
With John Jay trailing 8-2, junior
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez and
Essien Epps hit back-to-back jumpers to trail by two. Army scored the next seven points to go up by nine. Freshman
Matt Hudzik scored the Bloodhounds' six of the next eight points on back-to-back three-pointers. Hudzik then made another one from behind the arc to cut the deficit to 20-17.
The Cadets broke open the game going on a 28-0 run and led 51-20 at the half. West Point outscored the Bloodhounds 41-23 in the second half.
Hudzik led John Jay with a team-high nine points. Epps recorded seven points and a game-high nine boards. Senior
MiKing Richardson finished with seven points, two steals, and a team-high two assists. Sophomore
Doug Levy added six rebounds and sophomore
Hakeem Animashaun had a team-high two blocks.
John Jay finished 15-for-60 (25.0%) from the floor, 6-for-22 (27.3%) from behind the arc, and 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the free-throw line.
