The women's basketball team fell to Purchase College, 83-46, in their season opener on Wednesday night at the Doghouse.
Junior
Christianne Perez recorded a team-high 16 points, a team-high eight rebounds, and three assists in her Bloodhound debut. Sophomore
Kaitlin Koehler registered 15 points, five rebounds, and a team-high two steals. Senior
Dana Nicholson finished with eight points, four boards, and a team-high four assists. Freshman
Ines Purisic added seven rebounds and a game-high two blocks in her collegiate debut.
Nicholson got John Jay on the scoreboard with a three-pointer to open the scoring. After Koehler cut the deficit to 8-7, Purchase scored nine straight to lead by 10. After the first period, the Panthers held an 18-11 advantage. Nicholson made a layup in the second to cut the lead to five. The visitors responded on a 12-0 run. At the half, the Bloodhounds trailed 37-21.
Four minutes into the third quarter, Purchase increased its lead to 22. John Jay was outscored 21-9 in the final period.
John Jay finished 18-for-57 (31.6%) from the field, 4-for-14 (28.6%) from behind the arc, and 6-for-10 (60.0%) from the charity stripe.
