The men's volleyball team split a non-conference tri-meet on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds fell to Lancaster Bible College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-12), before shutting out Medgar Evers, 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-11). John Jay now holds a record of 5-9 this year.
In the loss against the Chargers, junior
Juan DeJesus led the way with nine kills and 19 digs. Senior
Francisco Miranda recorded a team-high 22 digs and four kills. Freshman
Edwin Hernandez totaled nine kills and seven digs. Freshman
Steven Alvarado had a team-high 17 assists and six digs.
In their second match, freshman Kellvin Ortiz registered a game-high eight kills and a game-high two solo blocks. Freshman
Jerson Guaman contributed with four kills, two aces, and a game-high 19 digs. Alvarado tallied a game-high 11 assists, a game-high six service aces, and five digs. Junior
Brandon Dolores and sophomore
Michael Chabla added 13 and six digs, respectively.
On the day, John Jay totaled 45 kills, 30 assists, 14 service ace, five solo blocks, and 116 digs.
The Bloodhounds will once again face the Cougars of Medgar Evers in a conference match on Tuesday, February 28, at 7:00 pm in Brooklyn.
