The women's basketball team defeated Medgar Evers College, 53-46, on Friday evening at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds improve to 3-19 overall and 2-11 in CUNYAC. The Cougars drop to 1-21 and 1-12 in conference play.
Freshman
Uju Nwaigwe fell one point shy of a double-double with nine points, a season-high and game-high 17 rebounds, a season-high and game-high five blocks, and a game-high four steals. Senior
Claire Prince fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 13 points, nine boards, a team-high three assists, and three steals. Junior
Dana Nicholson came off the bench to add 15 points and senior
Cassandra Taylor finished with seven points and nine boards.
After trailing 4-0, the Bloodhounds went on a 15-2 run to end the first period to lead by nine. The second quarter went back-and-forth as John Jay went into halftime with a 31-19 advantage. The Bloodhounds outscored the Cougars 12-6 in the third and would go on to pick up their third victory of the season.
John Jay went 19-for-75 (25.3%) from the floor, 6-for-22 (27.3%) from behind the arc, and 9-for-16 (56.3%) from the free throw line.
The Bloodhounds host York College in their last regular season home game of the season on Tuesday, February 7, at 6:00 pm. Before the game, the Athletics Department will honor seniors
