The women's basketball team held on for a 51-48 win against York College on Tuesday evening at the Doghouse on Senior Night. The Bloodhounds improve to 4-19 on the year and 3-11 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals drop to 2-21 overall and 2-13 in conference play.
Senior
Cassandra Taylor recorded her second double-double of the season with a team-high 16 points, 10 rebounds, one block, and one steal. Freshman
Uju Nwaigwe fell one point shy of a double-double with a career-high and game-high 19 rebounds, nine points, two assists, and two steals. Senior
Shaliyah Ruiz added eight points and six boards and freshman
Kaitlin Koehler added seven points. Senior
Claire Prince added eight rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists.
John Jay scored the first 11 points of the game and led 14-6 after the first quarter. Trailing 17-9, the Cardinals went on an 8-0 run to tie the score but a three pointer by Taylor gave the Bloodhounds a 17-14 advantage. John Jay scored the final three points of the half to lead 27-24 at half.
The first four minutes of the third went back-and-forth as John Jay was up by one. The Bloodhounds responded on a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 35-29. York cut the deficit down to 39-36 heading into the final period.
The visitors started the fourth with six straight points to take a 42-39 lead. A free throw by Nwaigwe and a three by Koehler put the Bloodhounds back up by one. With the score tied 45-45 with 3:29 left on the clock, Taylor and Ruiz made two straight baskets as the Bloodhounds would not look back.
John Jay finished 15-for-61 (24.6%) from the floor, 5-for-20 (25.0%) from behind the arc, and 16-for-22 (72.7%) from the charity stripe.

Shaliyah Ruiz, and
Cassandra Taylor, who were playing in their final regular season home game of their collegiate career.
The Bloodhounds travel to Brooklyn College on Friday, February 10, for their second to last conference game at 5:00 pm.
