The baseball team took the final game of the three-game series against Lehman, 13-10, on Saturday afternoon at Fordham University in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Lightning drop to 4-7 and 2-1 in CUNYAC.
John Jay exploded in the first inning with four runs. Senior
Dylan Laudano picked up an RBI walk and senior
Charlee Rodriguez doubled in two runs with the bases loaded. In the bottom of the third, freshman
Sean Napier doubled in senior
R.J. Davila to increase the lead to 6-0. Starting pitcher
Joe Gregory started the contest with three scoreless innings.
In the fourth, Lehman scored two runs but John Jay responded with a combined five runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Laudano and juniors
Zach Hyde and
Brian Garcia all recorded RBI's. Up 13-4 heading into the seventh, the Lightning plated four to cut the deficit to five. In their final frame, Lehman scored two runs but
Charlee Rodriguez struck out the final batter of the game to secure the win.
Garcia and Davila both finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Hyde was 1-for-2 with two RBI's, two runs, and one stolen base. Laudano and Rodriguez finished with two RBI's each. Sophomore
Brandon Thomas walked three times and scored three runs.
Gregory picked up the win after throwing 6.1 innings. Rodriguez and sophomores
Marco Alonso and
Jurrel Diaz got the final seven outs.
The Bloodhounds travel to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) on Tuesday, March 28, for a non-conference game at 4:15 pm.
