The softball team split a doubleheader with Lehman College on Thursday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds lost the first game, 6-3, but rebounded to take game two, 13-5. John Jay and the Lightning are now both 1-11 overall and 1-3 in the CUNY Athletic Conference.
In game one, Lehman scored in the top of the first but John Jay tied the score when freshman
Mariela Guzman picked up an RBI sacrifice fly. The guests scored one in the second and two in the fifth to lead 4-1 after five full innings. In the bottom of the sixth, freshman
Jessica Barbaria smacked a two-out two-run single to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Lightning added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh and went on to take game one, 6-3.
Junior
Lisa Pellegrino pitched a complete game and struck out six. At the plate, Pellegrino went 2-for-3. Senior
Michelle Atiq finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
In game two, the Bloodhounds broke out with four runs in the first inning. Barbaria and senior Lisbet Lorenzo registered RBI's. Lehman trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the second but in the bottom half of the frame, senior
Jennifer Pace laced an RBI single as John Jay went up 7-2. Holding a 9-5 lead in the sixth, John Jay broke open the game with four runs. Lorenzo drove in a run with an RBI single to right field and sophomore
Star Manzueta laced a two-run single.
Devika Prashad got the start and threw a complete game. The sophomore recorded the win after allowing three earned runs. Pace and Atiq both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Lorenzo drove in a game-high three RBI's. Barbaria and Manzeuta both finished 2-for-4 with a run.
The Bloodhounds host the College of New Rochelle on Saturday, April 1, for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 16.
