The baseball team split a doubleheader with CCNY on Sunday afternoon at Salesian High School in New Rochelle, NY. The Bloodhounds fell in game one, 8-4, before taking the second game, 3-0. John Jay is now 11-18 on the season. The Beavers are 8-17.
In game one, junior
Zach Hyde singled in the first inning and stole second. With two outs, senior
Dylan Laudano doubled in Hyde to give the Bloodhounds an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the frame, the Beavers tied the score. In the second, Hyde recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to plate senior
Jason Gonzalez. Senior
R.J. Davila then drove home sophomore
Jurrel Diaz with an RBI single to put John Jay back up by two.
In the top of the third with two outs, sophomore
C.J. Meyer and senior
Charlee Rodriguez recorded back-to-back doubles to give the Bloodhounds a 4-1 lead. After the first inning, starting pitcher
Christian Rodriguez cruised as the junior threw five scoreless innings.
In the bottom of the sixth, CCNY broke open the game with seven runs to win the first game, 8-4.
Hyde finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, run scored, and two stolen bases. Meyer was 2-for-3 with a run.
In the second game, freshman
Sean Napier delivered his best outing of his rookie season. The freshman threw a complete-game shutout, allowing six hits, three walks, and struck out three.
Senior
Brian Cabral got the Bloodhounds started in the fourth inning with an RBI single. In the next inning, Hyde stole home and Laudano registered an RBI single to give John Jay a 3-0 win.
Laudano went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run. Cabral finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bloodhounds travel to Delaware Valley University on Tuesday, April 25, at 4:00 pm.
