The men's soccer team shutout Farmingdale State College, 3-0, in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Rams drop to 1-1 on the season.
Seven minutes into the contest,
Mark Shnadshteyn recorded his first collegiate goal via a breakaway on a perfect pass from senior
Alexis Bustillo. In the 23rd minute, Bustillo grabbed a loose ball in the box and buried it to give John Jay a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later, Shnadshteyn found the back of the net in the box for his second goal of the game. Freshman
James Haddad was credited with the assist.
Farmingdale intensified the pressure in the second half but the defense was able to clear the ball and senior
Alexandros Taliotis made impressive saves to collect his first shut out of the year.
The Rams outshot John Jay by a margin of 19-11. Taliotis finished with a game-high nine saves. Bustillo registered a goal and an assist.
This was John Jay's first opening day win since the 2012 season.
