The women's soccer team defeated the College of Saint Elizabeth, 2-0, in their season opener on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Eagles fall to 0-2 on the year.
The first half was quiet on the scoreboard as neither team could find the back of the net. John Jay outshot St. Elizabeth 7-1 in the first forty-five minutes.
Twelve minutes into the second period, junior
Kali Moss found a loose ball and buried it past the goalkeeper to give the Bloodhounds a 1-0 lead. Junior
May Dempsey was credited with the assist. With five minutes left to go, Moss added her second goal of the contest on a pass by sophomore
Mary Jo Anzano.
Senior
Kelli Doherty picked up her first shutout of the season after making one save. Sophomore
Camila Vasquez finished with a game-high three shots on goal.
John Jay has now won back-to-back opening day matches after defeating Sarah Lawrence last season.
