The women's soccer team shutout Maritime College, 2-0, on Monday afternoon in Throggs Neck, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-0 on the season. The Privateers drop to 0-1.
In the 41st minute, freshman
Kimberly Robledo chipped a shot from the right wing past the goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal. Sophomore
Camila Vasquez was credited with the assist.
Senior
Kelli Doherty made three saves in the first half. John Jay recorded seven shots.
Late in the second half, freshman
Kristalina Banuelos blasted a shot from the 20 yard line to pick up her first career goal and give John Jay an insurance goal. That was all Bloodhounds needed as the John Jay defenders and Doherty preserved the shutout.
Doherty finished with five saves. Robledo had a game-high three shots and two shots on goal. Vasquez and sophomore
Jaime Bilotti registered two shots each.
The Bloodhounds visit Cedar Crest College on Wednesday, September 6, for a non-conference match at 7:00 pm.
