DeMarco's Game-Winning Goal Extends Men's Soccer's Conference Win Streak to Three

The men's soccer team defeated Brooklyn College, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 4-4 overall and remain undefeated at 3-0 in CUNYAC play. The Bulldogs drop to 2-6-2 and 1-2 in the conference.

John Jay got on the scoreboard in the fifth minute when freshman James Haddad found a loose ball in the box and buried it for his fourth goal of the year. With nine minutes remaining in the first half, Brooklyn tied the score at one apiece. Senior Alexandros Taliotis made six saves in the first period.

Early on in the second half, the ball went back-and-forth with each team seeing scoring opportunities. In the 61st minute, freshman Rodrick Leighton made a perfect cross through the box and sophomore Michael DeMarco headed it into the back of the net to give the Bloodhounds a 2-1 advantage.

With 18 minutes remaining, Taliotis made a huge diving save to keep the Bulldogs off the board. In the 80th minute, a Brooklyn forward found a loose ball inside the box with a wide open net but senior defender Steven Sanchez made a pivotal stop and cleared the ball.

John Jay's defense would hold on for a 2-1 victory. Taliotis finished with 10 saves. DeMarco registered four shots and four shots on goal.

The Bloodhounds host York College on Saturday, September 30, for a conference match at 12:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 83.
