Box Score The men's basketball team lost to Brooklyn College, 76-67, on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 3-7 on the season and 0-4 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs pick up their first win to improve to 1-10 and 1-2 in CUNYAC.
Junior
Essien Epps recorded his 1,000th career point to become the 12th Bloodhound to achieve this milestone. The guard led the way with a team-high 19 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a team-high two steals. Sophomore
Hakeem Animashaun fell one rebound shy of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Junior
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez picked up eight points and senior
MiKing Richardson totaled seven points and four assists. Freshman
Matt Hudzik came off the bench to add eight points and sophomore
Doug Levy had six points and five boards.
The first five minutes went back-and-forth as there were four lead changes. Leading by two, Epps converted on a three-point play to put John Jay ahead 11-6. The Bulldogs then went on a 9-4 run to tie the game at 18 apiece with 9:11 left in the first half. The hosts followed to score six straight but a layup by Richardson ended the run. With 3:19 left in the period, Brooklyn led 33-23. Epps made a layup with four seconds left as John Jay went into halftime trailing 37-29.
Epps made back-to-back jumpers to open the second half to cut the deficit to four. Three minutes in with John Jay down by four, Animashaun made a layup to trail by two. With Brooklyn leading by three, the Bulldogs made two straight three-pointers to go back up nine. The hosts increased its lead to 63-46 with 7:19 remaining. Trailing by 17 with 4:42 on the clock, John Jay went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to 10. However, Brooklyn responded with three straight points. With 1:01 left, Epps
made a layup to record his 1,000th career point.
John Jay finished 27-for-49 (55.1%) from the field, 2-for-7 (28.6%) from behind the arc, and 11-for-21 (52.4%) from the free-throw line.
