Box Score The men's basketball team lost to the College of New Rochelle, 110-101, in a high scoring affair on Tuesday night in New Rochelle, NY. The Bloodhounds fall to 8-12 on the season. The Blue Angels improve to 12-7.
Junior
Essien Epps led all scorers with a game-high 29 points, a game-high nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Sophomore
Doug Levy recorded 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a team-high three blocks. Senior
Eric Sandoval Jr. made his first start of the season and picked up 17 points, six boards, and three assists. Senior
MiKing Richardson registered nine points, a game-high seven assists, and a season-high and game-high four steals. Juniors
Luciano Cruz-Fernandez and
Jerome Petty combined for 17 points.
The first seven-and-a-half minutes went back-and-forth as the score was tied 13-13. CNR followed with six straight points but Levy made a layup to end the run. Trailing by six with 9:30 remaining in the first half, Epps converted on two free-throws and Petty made a basket to cut the deficit to 21-19.
Leading by two, the Blue Angels went on a 5-0 run but Sandoval Jr. and Epps responded with two straight layups. The hosts ended the half on a 10-2 run to go into halftime leading 50-39.
Two minutes in and trailing by nine, Cruz-Fernandez made a layup to cut the lead down to 53-46. Down by nine, Levy hit two free-throws and Epps drained a jumper to trail by five. Up by eight, CNR increased its lead to 15 with 9:49 left to go.
Epps finished with period with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting as the Bloodhounds came up short by nine.
John Jay finished 33-for-64 (51.6%) from the floor, 8-for-25 (32.0%), from behind the arc, and 27-for-35 (77.1%) from the free-throw line.
The Bloodhounds travel to Immaculata University for a non-conference game on Saturday, February 3, at 2:00 pm.
