Brittany Shaneberger made a point-blank save to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
The Bloodhounds outshot the Beavers by a margin of 10-4. CCNY's goalkeeper made five saves.
In the second period, the play went back-and-forth as both teams saw scoring chances. The match would head into overtime as John Jay led in shots 16-9.
The first overtime period was relatively quiet as CCNY recorded the lone shot. The second extra period was similar as the Beavers registered the only shot. The game would be decided in penalty kicks.
With CCNY leading 2-0, freshman
Katie Healy cut the deficit to 2-1 and after a save by Shaneberger, freshman
Anneliese Tucci tied the score at two apiece. The Beavers regained the lead but Russo quickly responded to even the score.
After a miss by both teams, CCNY went back ahead but was equalized by a goal by freshman
Cynthia Madrid. Shaneberger then stopped the next Beaver shot and was selected to make the next kick. The South Huntington native buried it into the back of the net to clinch the victory for the Bloodhounds.
Shaneberger notched her third shutout and 11th win after making four saves. Russo and Tucci finished with five shots and two shots on goal each.
The Bloodhounds will make the program's second CUNYAC Championship appearance, and first since 2011, on Saturday, November 3, when they take on #1 Staten Island at 2:00 pm at Brooklyn College.
