The rifle team finished the weekend with an overall record of 1-2 and MAC record of 1-0. The Bloodhounds defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2186-2065, in a conference air rifle match. John Jay barely in air rifle against MIT, 2190-2186 and in smallbore, 2113-2060.
In air rifle, senior
Ida Sato was the matches top finisher as she fired a match-high score of 563. Finishing in third overall and second for the Bloodhounds was sophomore
Michael Hyde with a 554. Junior
Susana Sanchez placed sixth overall and third for John Jay with a score of 543. Freshman
Mathius Balta registered a 526, good for fourth for John Jay.
In smallbore, Sato once again led the Bloodhounds with a team-high 531, which was third overall. Right behind was Sanchez with a score of 529. Rounding out the top four were Hyde and Balta with scores of 511 and 489, respectively.
The Bloodhounds host Maritime College on Saturday, December 1, in the annual Big Apple Classic in the Marksmanship Training Facility at the Doghouse. Before the match, the Athletics Department will honor senior
Ida Sato as part of Senior Day. In addition, this will be legendary head coach
Vince Maiorino's final collegiate match before he retires. The Athletics Department will honor him with a farewell tribute breakfast at 9:00 am in the Auxiliary Gym. All are welcome to attend!
