Women's Basketball Back in Win Column After Topping Sarah Lawrence on Homecoming; Katie Healy & All'aha Albright Combine For 41 Points & 31 Rebounds

The women's basketball team defeated Sarah Lawrence College, 62-48, on Tuesday evening in a packed Doghouse for Homecoming. The Bloodhounds get back over .500 at 5-4 on the season. The Gryphons drop to 0-9 overall. 

Freshman Katie Healy finished with a monster game with a season-high and game-high 21 points, season-high and game-high 18 rebounds, a team-high four steals, and three assists. It was her second double-double of the season. 

Junior All'aha Albright recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points, 13 boards, and a pair of steals. Freshman Lily Rakitzis tallied 13 points and sophomore Jessica Gorman grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. Freshman Madison LaLone added nine boards. 

Sarah Lawrence opened the game with the first seven points but a layup by Healy put John Jay on the scoreboard. Healy would score the Bloodhounds' first eight points as John Jay trailed 11-8 with 4:08 left in the first quarter. Down by two, Gorman made two free-throws to tie the score and a free-throw by Rakitzis gave the Bloodhounds a 13-12 lead at the end of one. 

Baskets by LaLone, Rakitzis, and Gorman increased the advantage to seven halfway through the second. Trailing by seven, the Gryphons cut the deficit to three. The Bloodhounds went into the half with a 27-23 lead. 

A layup by Albright and a jumper by Healy gave John Jay a 31-23 advantage. Down by seven, Sarah Lawrence went on a 9-0 run to hold a two-point advantage with 5:37 remaining. Rakitzis converted on a three-point play to give the Bloodhounds the lead again. With John Jay up by one, Albright scored five straight to put the Bloodhounds ahead 44-38 at the end of three. 

Healy opened the final period with four straight points to increase the lead to 10. Sarah Lawrence made a late push to cut the deficit to six but the Bloodhounds ended the contest on a 10-2 run. 

John Jay finished 23-for-83 (27.7%) from the field, 1-for-15 (6.7%) from behind the arc, and 15-for-23 (65.2%) from the free-throw line. 

The Bloodhounds return in the spring semester when they host Baruch College on Thursday, January 3, at 6:00 pm at the Doghouse. The game will be live streamed at www.johnjayathletics.com/watch
