Box Score The men's basketball team lost to Baruch College, 60-40, in the regular season finale on Tuesday night at the Doghouse. The Bloodhounds end the regular season with an overall record of 11-14 and 8-8 record in conference play. The Bearcats conclude the regular season at 15-10 overall and 12-4 in CUNYAC.
Junior
Essien Epps registered a team-high 13 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of steals. Sophomore
Doug Levy recorded 10 points and seven boards. Freshman
Odis Gause dished out a team-high three assists and senior
Eric Sandoval Jr. added seven rebounds and six points.
Two minutes in, Baruch jumped out to an early 6-0 lead. Epps ended the run making a layup but the Bearcats scored the next five points. At the under 12:00 media timeout, the visitors held a 17-5 advantage.
Junior
Jerome Petty followed with a free-throw and Epps then drained a three to cut the deficit to eight. But, Baruch responded on a 9-0 run to go up 28-11 with 3:10 left in the first half. Epps scored the final four points of the period as John Jay trailed 30-17 at halftime.
Levy opened the second with two free-throws. With the guests leading 33-21, the Bearcats scored eight straight with 11:54 remaining in the game. A three-pointer by Richardson with 5:59 on the clock cut the deficit to 50-32. The Bloodhounds trimmed the lead to 15 with just over two minutes left but late free-throws by Baruch sealed the victory.
John Jay finished 14-for-55 (25.5%) from the field, 2-for-17 (11.8%) from behind the arc, and 10-for-14 (71.4%) from the free-throw line.
