Box Score 2 The men's volleyball team split a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon in Boston, MA. The Bloodhounds fell to Emerson College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17. 25-13), and then defeated Newbury College, 3-1 (22-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-22). John Jay us now 5-3 on the year.
In the match against Emerson, freshman
Christopher Rincon recorded his first collegiate double-double with a match-high 20 assists, 10 digs, four kills, and a pair of total blocks. Sophomore
Krystian Surdel led the Bloodhounds in kills with nine. Seniors
Juan DeJesus and
Alexander Santana finished with six and five kills, respectively. Sophomore
Godwin Sequiera and freshman
Anthony Francois had five digs each.
In the win against Newbury, freshman
Jose Peralta notched his first collegiate double-double after registering 12 kills, 10 digs, and a total three blocks. DeJesus recorded 12 kills and eight digs and Sequiera added a game-high 15 digs. Rincon tallied a match-high 41 assists, eight digs, four kills, and three aces. Sophomore
Kellvin Ortiz placed third on the squad in kills with a season-high nine. Francois had six kills and freshman
Rintaro Kato finished with a trio of service aces.
For the day, John Jay totaled 82 kills, 76 assists, 95 digs, 28 total blocks, and 10 service aces.
The Bloodhounds open conference play on Monday, February 19, in a tri-match at Hunter College. John Jay will face Brooklyn College at 12:00 pm followed by Hunter at 2:00 pm.
