Men's Basketball Falls to #1 Lehman in CUNYAC Semifinals; Finish With Best Season Since 2012-13

Box Score The #5 men's basketball team was eliminated from the CUNYAC postseason after losing to #1 Lehman College, 78-55, on Tuesday evening at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on the campus of CCNY. The Bloodhounds finish the season with a 12-15 record, their best since 2012-2013. 

Junior Essien Epps registered a team-high 15 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high four steals. Senior MiKing Richardson recorded 12 points and a team-high four assists. Senior Eric Sandoval Jr. tallied eight points, six boards, and a season-high and game-high four blocks. Junior Jerome Petty finished with seven points and sophomore Doug Levy grabbed seven boards. 

The Lightning jumped out to an early 11-0 lead with 15:41 left in the opening half. Trailing by 13, Epps drained a three-pointer and jumper to cut the deficit to eight. Up by eight, Lehman went on a 9-0 run to go up 26-9 with 10:05 remaining. 

A three by Epps trimmed the deficit to 13. Richardson made a layup in John Jay's final possession to go into halftime trailing 38-20. 

Five minutes into the second period, the Lightning increased its lead to 25. With 13:04 on the clock, Richardson converted on a three-point play and freshman Odis Gause made a layup to cut the lead down to 58-38. 

Freshman Matt Hudzik and Richardson nailed back-to-back three-pointers as John Jay trailed 64-45. However, the Lightning responded to increase their lead to 73-48 with 3:20 remaining in the game.

John Jay finished 21-for-59 (35.6%) from the field, 6-for-23 (26.1%) from behind the arc, and 7-for-17 (41.2%) from the free-throw line. 

This game turned out to be the final one of Ari Baim, David PinedoMiKing Richardson, and Eric Sandoval Jr.'s collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
