The women's soccer team picked up its second win of the season defeating Maritime College, 4-1, on Wednesday night in Throggs Neck, NY. With the victory, the Bloodhounds improve to 2-2-1. The Privateers drop to 0-3 on the year.
In the fifth minute, freshman
Gianna Russo netted her first of the game to give John Jay an early lead. Freshman
Alison Santos registered her first collegiate assist on the goal. Sixteen minutes later, Russo notched her second of the contest on a pass from sophomore
Kimberly Robledo.
In the 21st minute, freshman
Katie Healy collected her second goal of the season to put the Bloodhounds ahead 3-0. Freshman
Yomary Cordero was credited with the assist. Right before the end of the first half, Russo completed the hat trick after stealing the ball from a Maritime defender leading to a fast break.
Freshman
Brittany Shaneberger finished the period with one save. The South Huntington native went on to record her second win of the season.
John Jay outshot the hosts by a margin of 20-4. Healy and freshman
Lily Collins combined for nine shots.
The Bloodhounds host the College at Old Westbury on Saturday, September 15, at 1:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 74.
