The women's tennis team defeated Hunter College, 7-2, in the CUNYAC opener on Thursday afternoon at the Binghamton Racquet Club in Edgewater, NJ. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the conference. The Hawks drop to 1-2 and 1-1 in CUNYAC.
John Jay swept all three doubles matches. At the top spot, the duo of freshman
Mariana Rodriguez and sophomore
Gabriela de Armas were victorious 8-4. At number two, junior
Angelica Lozano and sophomore
Gabrielle Schuck came out on top 8-3. In the third spot, the tandem of freshmen
Briana Schmidt and
Kellie Murtha recorded a win by a final score of 8-5.
In singles play, Rodriguez won at number two, 6-4, 6-1. Schuck, Lozano, and Schmidt all were victorious in straight sets as John Jay now has a three-match win streak against Hunter.
The Bloodhounds travel to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, September 15, for a non-conference match at 12:00 pm.
