The women's tennis team topped Rutgers-Newark, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon in Newark, NJ. With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 3-1. The Scarlet Raiders drop to 0-4.
The Bloodhounds swept all three doubles matches against the hosts.Â
In doubles, the tandem of sophomore
Gabrielle Schuck and freshman
Mariana Rodriguez (No. 1) and duo of freshmen
Briana Schmidt and
Kellie Murtha (No. 3) collected wins by a final score of 8-3 each. At number two, junior
Angelica Lozano and sophomore
Clara Aylin Wilhelm came out on top, 8-6, for John Jay's third victory of the afternoon.Â
In a back-and-forth match at second singles, Schuck battled her opponent to win 6-4, 7-6. To seal the victory for the Bloodhounds, Murtha was victorious at No. 6 by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Lozano, Schmidt, and sophomore
Cristina Peralta also registered singles wins for John Jay.Â
The Bloodhounds travel to Brooklyn College on Tuesday, September 18, for a CUNYACÂ match at 4:00 pm.
