The women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over the College of Staten Island at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 4-1 on the season and remain perfect in conference play at 2-0. The Dolphins drop to 1-1 and 0-1 in CUNYAC.
John Jay swept all three doubles matches. At the top spot, the duo of sophomores
Gabriela de Armas and
Gabrielle Schuck won their match easily, 8-2. At number two, junior
Angelica Lozano and freshman
Mariana Rodriguez came out with the victory, 8-5. In the final spot, freshman
Briana Schmidt and
Kellie Murtha shut out their opponent, 8-0.
After dropping the first set in top singles, de Armas stormed back to take the final two sets 6-4, 7-5. At No. 2, Rodriguez won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Lozano, Schmidt, and Murtha all collected victories as well.
The Bloodhounds host Sarah Lawrence College on Sunday, September 23, at 12:00 pm at the USTA National Tennis Center.
