The women's tennis team rolled past Sarah Lawrence College, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY. With the win, the Bloodhounds are off to their best start in program history and improve to 5-1 on the season. The Gryphons drop to 1-4 overall.
John Jay's first victory of the day came at third doubles when the tandem of freshmen
Briana Schmidt and
Kellie Murtha won 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, junior
Angelica Lozano and sophomore
Clara Aylin Wilhelm collected an 8-3 victory. In the top spot, sophomore
Gabrielle Schuck and freshman
Mariana Rodriguez came out on top by a score of 8-5.
In singles play, sophomore
Cristina Peralta, Schuck, Rodriguez did not drop a game. Lozano (No. 3) and Murtha (No. 5) won by scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
For the season, Lozano is now 5-1 in both singles and doubles. Murtha and Schmidt improve to 5-1 in doubles and 4-2 in singles. Rodriguez now stands at 4-1 in singles and 4-2 in doubles.
The Bloodhounds return to conference play starting on Tuesday, September 25, when they travel to Lehman College for a match at 3:30 pm.
