Men's Soccer Suffers Tough 2-1 Loss to Baruch in Double Overtime

In a back-and-forth game, the men's soccer team lost a nail-biter to Baruch College, 2-1, in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-6 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. The Bearcats improve to 4-3-1 and 2-0 in CUNYAC.

The first half saw both teams with scoring opportunities. Baruch's goalkeeper as well as sophomore Steven Towler pitched a shutout in the first period. S. Towler had three saves. Baruch outshot the hosts by a margin of 4-3.

In the 74th minute, the Bearcats converted on a penalty kick to lead 1-0. The Bloodhounds intensified the pressure and responded two minutes later when freshman Andrew DeCanio found the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1. It was the midfielder's second goal of the season.

The game would head into overtime as John Jay led in shots 9-8. The first overtime went scoreless as the Bloodhounds recorded the lone shot. Six minutes into the second extra period, Baruch scored on a loose ball in the box to clinch the victory.

S. Towler recorded six saves in the contest. Freshman Chris Toledo led John Jay with a team-high three shots and two shots on net.

The Bloodhounds travel to Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, October 3, for a non-conference match at 7:00 pm.
