The women's basketball team was outscored 24-10 in the final quarter to fall to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 66-65, on Thursday evening in Riverdale, NY. The Bloodhounds drop to 2-3 on the season. The Dolphins improve to 2-1.
Senior
All'aha Albright led the way with a career-high and game-high 29 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and three assists. The Jamaica, NY native went an impressive 8-for-13 from behind the arc. Senior
Nyasha Howard finished with nine points, a game-high six assists, and five boards.
Sophomore
Katie Healy registered seven points and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Jada Rencher came off the bench to add eight points.
The first three minutes went back-and-forth as there were four lead changes. After Albright sank a three, Healy made two straight layups to put the Bloodhounds ahead 12-6. With 1:28 left in the opening quarter, sophomore
Kameron De Voogd converted on a three-point play to increase the lead to nine. The hosts scored the final five points to trail 20-16 after one.
Albright opened the second with back-to-back three-pointers to increase the advantage back up to 10. Down by 12, the Dolphins went on a 7-0 run with just under three minutes left in the half. However, Albright, Howard, and freshman
AriAna Pechin all made three-pointers to give John Jay a 41-29 lead at halftime.
Four-and-a-half minutes into the third, CMSV trimmed the deficit to 43-38 but Albright responded with another three. The Bloodhounds ended the period on a 9-2 run to break open the game, 55-42, heading into the fourth.
John Jay quickly increased the advantage to 20 as Albright hit a three and Rencher made two baskets. The Bloodhounds led 64-44 with 6:20 on the clock. The Dolphins followed on a 16-0 run to cut the deficit to 64-60 with 1:19 remaining. Healy sank a free-throw but Mount St. Vincent ended the contest on a 6-0 run to complete the come-from-behind victory.
John Jay finished 26-for-54 (48.1%) from the floor, 10-for-22 (45.5%) from behind the arc, and 3-for-7 (42.9%) from the free-throw line.
