The #5 women's volleyball team was eliminated from the CUNYAC postseason tournament after losing to #4 CCNY, 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-21), on Tuesday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Bloodhounds conclude the 2019 season with an overall record of 6-17. The Beavers improve to 12-8.
The match went back-and-forth as John Jay rallied back to take the opening set. The hosts evened the score in the second. Both teams exchanged points in the third period but CCNY came out on top to take a 2-1 advantage. The Bloodhounds fought hard in the fourth but fell in the set.
Sophomore
Niovis Monsanto tallied her third double-double of the season with a team-high 13 kills, a match-high 15 digs, and a pair of service aces. Senior
Mirialis Almanzar recorded nine kills and seven total blocks (including a season-high five solo). Sophomore
Sophia Wheelan notched eight kills.
Senior
Kimberly Rodriguez dished out a 29 assists to go along with four four digs. Freshman
Jamarie Silverio added 13 digs and a game-high six service aces. Freshman
Stephany Chhay had 13 digs.
John Jay totaled 34 kills, 32 assists, 51 digs, 11 service aces, and 11 total blocks.
This match turned out to be the final one of
Mirialis Almanzar,
Niovis Monsanto, and
Kimberly Rodriguez's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
